Diane loved sharing her talents with others, which led to creation of a series of art workshops for fellow enthusiasts and involvement with the Pensacola Pelican Project. She enjoyed playing tennis and served the Greater Pensacola Tennis Association for many years, but her passion was art. Her contribution to the Music Ministry came through stage makeup and costume design for performances. She participated on the baptism committee and was instrumental in designing the signature cross that hangs in the baptistry. She worked with youth and was active in Sunday School and WMU. She graduated from Pensacola High School and received her RN degree from Sacred Heart Hospital’s School of Nursing.Īs a member of First Baptist Church for 55 years, Diane gave of herself and used her skills to serve others. Lauderdale served as organist at First Baptist Church, Pensacola, since 1981,where she produced a recording of music for the organ to benefit Sacred Heart Children's Hospital and founded the Cherub Choir and the Acappella Singers as additions to the Music Ministry of FBC.ĭr. Lauderdale was the composer of the University of West Florida's Alma Mater.ĭr. Her terminal position on UWF staff was Adjunct Associate Professor, with teaching responsibilities in Applied Organ, having retired in the Fall of 2015. Lauderdale was responsible for inaugurating the UWF Arts Camps, the UWF Gospel Choir, the UWF Madrigals, and the UWF Show Choir. She served as Coordinator for the Department of Music from 1993 through 1999. Lauderdale taught a wide range of courses, including Music in Western Civilization, Freshman and Sophomore Theory and Ear Training, Music History, Structure and Style, Counterpoint, UWF Singers, UWF Madrigals, and UWF Show Choir, Graduate Seminars, Independent Directed Studies, Applied Piano, Class Piano, and Applied Organ. Having joined the music faculty at UWF in 1980, Dr. Several of her students have been accepted at such prestigious musical institutions as Brevard, Interlochen, Aspen, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and The Juilliard School. She performed as soloist with the New Orleans Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, the New Orleans Summer Pops Orchestra, the Louisiana State University Symphony Orchestra, the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, the Okaloosa Symphony Orchestra, and the UWF Runge Strings Orchestra.Until 2020, she maintained an active private studio both in piano and organ, with many of her students receiving top honors in local, state, regional, and national competitions. Lauderdale received the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance from Louisiana State University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance, with Organ and Musicology as related fields from the University of North Texas. Lauderdale was born in London, UK, to Mary Warren Lauderdale and Carl Joseph Lauderdale, Jr., on November 5, 1953, and was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was surrounded by the company of family, beloved community, and former students whose diverse careers began with piano or organ lessons from "Doc" Lauderdale.ĭr.
